Our Prevention Community of Practice: DoD SAPR Connect
Date: 22 October 2014, 1400-1530 ET
Speakers: Josephine Montoya, Prevention Outreach Manager, DoD SAPRO
Who Should Attend: This webinar presentation will benefit all who have responsibility for preventing sexual assault in military environments, including SHARP/SAPR program managers, SARCs and SAPR VAs.
Overview: With the publication of the 2014-2016 Sexual Assault Prevention Strategy on May 1, 2014, the Secretary of Defense (SecDef) directed DoD Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Office (SAPRO) to develop a military community of practice focused on primary prevention of sexual assault. A community of practice (CoP) is a self-organized network of peers with diverse skills and experiences in a practice area brought together by the members’ desire to help others, share information and advance their own knowledge.
In order to accomplish the SecDef directive, the Prevention Team at the Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Office created DoD SAPR Connect, a community of practice where members share the common goal of advancing the primary prevention of sexual assault and relationship violence.
The discussion will address how DoD SAPR Connect Community of Practice members can have a dialogue with others involved in sexual assault prevention, share promising practices and lessons learned, and explore new approaches for preventing sexual assault.
Practitioners will learn the goal of any community of practice, its necessary components, and how to access and join DoD SAPR Connect. The webinar will include a 60-minute presentation, followed by 30 minutes of Q&A and discussion.
